The first workshop of the MobiNexus Entrepreneurship Academy successfully brought together mobility entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers and professionals from across Europe to explore how design thinking can drive innovation in the future of sustainable mobility.
Delivered by Mario Vukelić, the session introduced participants to design thinking as a human-centred approach to problem-solving that places user needs at the heart of innovation. As Europe continues its green and digital transition, understanding how to develop solutions that respond to real-world challenges is becoming increasingly important for the mobility innovation ecosystem.
Throughout the workshop, participants explored the key stages of the design thinking process, including empathising with users, defining challenges, generating ideas, developing prototypes and testing solutions. Through practical examples and interactive discussions, attendees gained valuable insights into how these methods can support the development of smart mobility solutions and sustainable urban transport initiatives.
One of the central messages of the session was the importance of understanding users before moving directly to solution development. By investing time in identifying genuine needs and pain points, innovators can reduce the risk of developing products or services that fail to deliver meaningful impact. This user-focused approach is particularly relevant for mobility startups, urban transport innovators and organisations working to accelerate transport innovation across Europe.
The workshop forms part of MobiNexus' wider mission to strengthen mobility innovation training and foster collaboration between academia, industry and innovation stakeholders. Through the Entrepreneurship Academy, participants will gain practical skills and knowledge that support the development of sustainable mobility solutions and contribute to a stronger European mobility ecosystem.
